Minecraft has decided to get rid of NFTs.
In a statement released on their website and Twitter, Minecraft declared that “blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our client and server applications,” effectively eliminating the creation of NFTs within the game. They also banned the use of Minecraft items within blockchain; “Minecraft in-game content such as worlds, skins, personal items, or other mods, [may not] be utilized by blockchain technology to create a scarce digital asset.”
Minecraft completely rejecting NFTs and what they represent is a big deal. Minecraft is the most successful video game and virtual world in history, and WAS a big target for NFT racketeering.

Minecraft has decided NFTs have no place in its future. Huge.https://t.co/5SjlnxQh7m pic.twitter.com/idDzESBFiH
This decision could be very influential, as other game developers and media owners might look to it as reference in their own future relationships with NFTs. Following the recent extreme instability NFTs have faced, this is undoubtedly another blow to their future growth.
Minecraft cited their goals for players to have “a safe and inclusive experience,” and felt that NFTs “can create models of scarcity and exclusion that conflict with our Guidelines and the spirit of Minecraft.”
